How To Identify The Symptoms Of High Blood Pressure

By Alan Bradd

High blood pressure also known as hypertension is a chronic medical condition that elevates blood pressure in the arteries. The two measurements to summarize blood pressure are diastolic and systolic. Diastolic is the case where the heart muscles are relaxing between the beats, while systolic is the case where the heart muscles are contracting between beats. Systolic and diastolic therefore, represent maximum and minimum high blood pressure respectively. There are various symptoms of high blood pressure to base on when determining the presence of this medical condition in a body as discussed below.

People with high blood pressure may have their blood reading dangerously, but they may not be aware of having the disease in their bodies. Relying on the symptoms of high blood pressure as an alert of the problem may have your life at danger. It is therefore, upon every individual to know there blood pressure levels and prevent the disease from developing to critical levels. Below are some of the major symptoms of high blood pressure to look at.

Having a headache in the morning, especially at the back of the head is one of the symptoms that indicate the presence of high blood pressure in your system. This type of headache is not usual and most of the high blood pressure victims diagnosed for the condition have shown to have this type of headache. Therefore, if you have this type of headache, then it is good to seek a medical attention for examination to find out if the condition is present in your body.

Having continuous episode of fainting or feeling unconsciousness may also be another major symptom of high blood pressure. When the blood pressure is low, the heart rate will also slow down because of the stimulation of the vagus nerve. A vagus nerve is a nerve that comes from the brain to the other several parts of the organ system. Before fainting, one will experience either sweating, nausea or breathing problem. This is the reason why most of the hypertension victims do sit down and put their head in between the knees for some time as the method works out for most of the people.

Having visual problems is another major symptom to focus on. If you have hypertensive retinopathy in your optic fundus, then there is a possibility of having high blood pressure in your system. The measure of hypertensive retinopathy severity is determined using ophthalmoscope. The range of measurement usually varies from grade I to Iv. In addition, ophthalmoscope helps to determine the extent of hypertensive in the system of the victim.

Experiencing regular facial flushing is also a common sign of hypertension that is often caused by cold weather, exposure to the sun and intake of spicy food. In many instances, hypertension will be triggered by the high levels of stress or consumption of alcohol hence the need to know how to handle or keep off the problem from escalating. You may also have kidney or endocrine disease if you are having high blood pressure.

Having an abdominal bruit is also an indication of having renal artery stenosis, a narrowing of the arteries supplying the kidneys. Decreased blood pressure in the lower extremities may also indicate aortic coarctation, that is, a narrowing of the aorta as it leaves the heart shortly. When classifying symptoms of high blood pressure, this condition would be highly considered as its main cause.

Feeling pain in the chest may also be a symptom of high blood pressure. Chest pain is the response of the muscles in the heart not being able to access the oxygenated blood. A chest pain here is a result of having a squeezing feeling in the chest, arms jaw, and neck and even at the back. Either of these chest feelings, is an indication of blood pressure.
